FEATURED AUTHOR RECIPE
A Song for My Mother, the second book in my Dreyerville series, is a gift-sized hardcover out for Mother's Day. A Song for My Mother and The Christmas Clock are very different from my other books; they are both sweet novellas inspired by the small town of Ionia, Michigan, while my other novels are historical, paranormal or contemporary romance. A Song for My Mother is more about old-fashioned values, the days when honesty, courage, loyalty and integrity were more valuable than they seem to be today. In contrast to my romance novels, in A Song for My Mother, the only thing really hot is the cooking going on in the kitchen!
Prep time: 35 minutes
2 cups all-purpose flour
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a flat baking sheet.
2. In a mixing bowl combine flour, salt, sugar (if desired), and baking powder. Mix ingredients well. Add butter or shortening to flour mixture and cut together using a pastry blender, two knives, or your fingers, until mixture is an even consistency. Add Cheddar cheese and chives or scallion tops and mix together thoroughly. Add enough milk to form a soft dough.
3. Place dough on a floured breadboard. Knead 7 to 10 times. Roll dough with a rolling pin to 1/2 inch thickness.
4. Flour a 2 inch round cookie cutter and cut dough into rounds. Transfer to baking sheet and bake for 10-14 minutes or until golden brown.
